On the basis of previous studies,the Chinese parenthesis is defined as "lexical chunks with special pragmatic functions,which don’t act as syntactic or semantic components in sentences and have solidified structures ". Through the investigation into relationship between parenthesis and a variety of other language elements or structures,it takes the stable and semi stable structures as the main subject of this article. This article discussed the characteristics of the parenthesis from structure, semantics and pragmatics aspects,and also and the parenthesis are classified based on structure and pragmatics.This article made a statistical analysis on the parenthesis phenomenon appeared in the composition assignments and assessment tests of foreign learners,described the usage of foreign learners, discussed the periodical usage characteristics of intermediate and advanced L2 learners,based on which it put forward the hypothesis of the dynamic development process of Chinese parenthesis usage by foreign learner.In addition,this article also pointed out some problems of foreign learners using parenthesis, analyzed the causes from the aspects of teachers, textbook,teaching methods,and put forward some suggestions.
