This translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation project of The Exposome:A Primer (Chapters 1-2), which is the first book dedicated to the exposome in a systematic way with no Chinese version to date. Therefore, its Chinese version can help domestic readers have a good understanding of the exposome, promoting the development of exposome studies in China. The author is responsible for the translation of the book’s first two chapters assigned by a translation company and undergoes a translation process including preparation, procedure management, revision of the translated work and post-translation feedback. The book belongs to the type of informative text with certain characteristics of scientific English. As for this type of text, the primary task for translators is to express the original information faithfully. In consideration of the technical characteristics, popular science characteristics with non-technical content and long sentences in the text, the author emphasizes and explores translation strategies and methods from the perspectives of terminology, non-technical content and long sentences through specific examples in order to ensure that the accurate expression of terminology is achieved and the expression of translated text conforms to that of the target language. Among them, translation methods of terminology include consulting relevant materials and using context for understanding; translation methods of non-technical content contain amplification, conversion and semantic expression in terms of the context; translation methods of long sentences include division, linear translation, reversion, embedding and recasting.Through participating in this translation project, the author has a deeper understanding of translation. A qualified translator should have a good command of both English and Chinese languages, expand his or her knowledge to handle different kinds of texts and learn about translation project management to finish the translation task better. The author hopes that this translation practice report can bring inspirations and give help to other translation learners.
