The source text of this translation project is selected from Chapter 2 of Yoga as Medicine : The Yogic Prescription for Health & Healing authored by Timothy Mc Call,an American Doctor of Medicine. The title of Chapter 2 is The Science of Yoga. The book gives a full demonstration of yoga's potentialities on health and healing. The translation report is divided into four parts. The first part is the general introduction to this translation project, including its background, significance and structure. The second part is the analysis to the source text, including the author introduction, publishing facts, the main contents and the linguistic feature.According to Katharina Reiss' s theory of text typology, the source text is categorized into informative texts. The translation of such texts should focus on accuracy and readability. The third part states translation theories, which is the core of this report.Meanwhile, this part also indicates the difficulties and corresponding solutions in the process of translation.Under the guideline of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory, the translator finished the translation with skills such as omission, amplification and division.Terminologies and long sentences are difficulties for the translation. The last part draws the conclusion which summarizes lessons learnt from this report and unsolved problems.Hopefully, this report can provide a reference for the study of informative text translation.
