| As a transmission carrier for today’s important social events, news is transmitted to the public every day through various media including internet, newspaper, TV, radio, etc. Meanwhile, news translation, as the secondary carrier for information transmission, plays an increasingly significant role in the communication between China and other countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture and society.This report is based on the author’s practice of C-E news translation of Xinhua News Agency Jilin Branch during the 10 th China-Northeast Asia Expo. It was the first time for the author to do so many news translation and he was required to translate in a certain speed owing to the timeliness of news. The author encountered many problems in translation, such as long sentences, Chinese-characterized sentences, terminologies, etc. Based on Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory and translation methods and strategies, the author found solutions to the problems. Methods and strategies applied in this report include combination, conversion, inversion, etc. The author hopes this report could be a reference for other news translators and also be a guide for translation learners. |
