The Study On The Narrator In Lao She’s Novels Written In England

Lao She left a large amount of writings during his life,in which his novels gain the most achievements.The narrator in his novels written in early times show something worthing exploring in narration and value.This thesis will take Lao Zhang’s Philosophy,Zhao Zi Yue and Two Mas, which were written in England,as the object of study.Analyzing the narrator in them.Lao She wrote the novel Lao Zhang’s Philosophy in 1924,and then Zhao Zi Yue and Two Mas. The years when Lao She was borned made him well known of Chinese culture.And the experience living in England made him understanding western value.This conflict also reflects on the narrator.It performances in the way how he tells the story:also accustomed to the authoritative narrator and show some characteristics non- authority.And reflects on what value the narrator has among the conflicts:he shows confused and uneasy.As the subject personality of the narration,how the narrator exists show the understanding of narrative authority.And from his narration,we can observe his opinions on the conflict of culture and life concept.This thesis is divided into four chapters to discuss this problem using close reading and narratology.The first chapter illustrates the question and the research status, significance and method.The second part discusses the narrative characteristics, analyses how the narrator acts under the impressions of Chinese and western narrative features.The third part talks about the personality of the narrator,which related to the self-knowledge of modern people.And at the last interpret the significance of the narrator in Lao She’s early creation compared with his later works and the Modern literature context.This thesis hopes to know how the personality reacts among the conflict of different culture through the study of the narrator in Lao She’s novels which created in England.And to understand how he cognizes the world and how to expresses himself.
