With the legalization of Christianity in early 4th Century,the forces of Christian church are growing.In this process,There are dramatic social and religious revolution in Eastern Rome Empire,Christian church constantly get the Rome Empire’s religious power and spiritual authority,this process is not placid,but accompanied by direct and intense violence,in those conflict between the church and secular,city Alexanderia in east of the empire are particularly serious.In this series of conflicts,the most worthy to studying is the conflict occurred in AD 415,and this conflict led Hypatia,a famous scholar to death.This article attempts to Hypatia’s death as study’s starting point,trying to restore the truth in this series of Conflict between the Christian church and Secular Authority,and try to explain the causes of those series of conflicts.On this basis,this article discusses the characteristics of this period’s conflicts between Alexanderia’s church and secular.The First chapter introduces the political background of Alexanderia,and this chapter mainly introduces the spread and development of Christianity in Alexanderia,Neoplatonism and school of Alexanderia.The second chapter,firstly introduces Hypatia,her growth,paternal teachings and academic achievements.Then it introduces the causes,processes and results of a series of conflicts that occurred in AD 415.The third chapter mainly discusses the causes and effects of Hypatia’s death.First introduced other three conflicts in Alexanderia at this era,in order to show the process of religious conflict in the city of Alexander is deteriorating,Then analyzes the reasons why Hypatia involved in those series of conflicts,and finally introduces the influence of Hypatia’s death.In the fourth chapter,comparative analysis of a series of changes in both Christian Church and Secular of Rome Empire this era.For the Christian Church,analyzes bishops,monks,and martyrs changes and the role played in conflicts.The other side are respectively analyzed the emperor,officials and citizens in the face of conflict with the church’s attitude.Alexanderia’s secular philosophy makes the local church more willing to participate in the debate,and more complex internal factions.The increasing religious power of the Christian church also made Christian more willing to act in the conflicts.From 4th to 5th Century,this time is the period of transition of Rome Empire to a Christian nation.In the process of those transformation period,accompanied by religious and secular power conflict are serious,and this kind of conflict is due to the Christian Church and the secular power fight for the religious authority.City Alexanderia because of its complexity of the society and rich ideological schools in this period,prone to such conflicts,Hypatia is also the victim of this conflicts.
