With the further exchanges and cooperation of China as well as the world in education, science and technology, economic and trade, the scale of preparatory students of Chinese foundation is in a continuous expansion. Compared with the constant development momentum of this study group, little attention is paid to the research of Chinese learning related to this group. Now there are only eight relevant thesis can be found, that about strategies of Chinese language learning of preparatory students, but among them no paper is involved in the study of Chinese characters learning strategies. Those preparatory students are in face of more difficult and pressing learning task because of the special educational purpose that they are supposed to finish Chinese language in a short time. And as a key factor of Chinese learning, Chinese characters play an important role in getting preparatory students to enter an integral study, so it is necessary for them to overcome the difficulties of learning Chinese characters at the beginning. Therefore, it is particularly significant to find some effective learning methods, which will contribute a lot to reduce the obstacles of Chinese characters learning to integrated learning. Although many papers are available, the ones that are effective for average foreign students may not be applicable for preparatory students, given the special mode of their study. So this thesis selects two samples of preparatory students coming to Shandong university in 2015. One is successful, while the other is poor in learning Chinese characters. Through tracking and contrast of the two students’similarities and differences of their learning strategies and character level in the first semester in China, this paper is aimed to find out the strategies that have obvious effect on learning outcome of Chinese character of preparatory students. This article is divided into six chapters and it mainly includes the following contents:the first chapter is the part of Introduction. It first introduces the general situation of studies of Chinese character learning strategies both at home and abroad as well as the status of preparatory students’learning strategies of Chinese characters in academic circles.Then, the research target and theoretical basis of this thesis are introduced. Finally, the paper introduces the research content, ideas and methods. The second chapter focuses on the research object and scheme. It mainly discusses the teaching mode of Chinese characters, the basic situation of the two cases in this paper as well as the data sources and analysis methods of the research material. The third chapter focuses on the level development of Chinese characters and learning strategy of case A. It mainly explores the situation of the successful one. First of all, by analyzing the type and characteristics of written errors of case A, his ability of writing Chinese characters in different stages can be understood. Secondly, through the test of Chinese characters, the features of overall level development of Chinese characters in different stages can be known; Then it analyzes his learning strategies of using Chinese characters; Finally, relations between the strategies, Chinese writing and overall function of Chinese characters are explored. The fourth chapter focuses on the Chinese characters level and learning strategy of case B. The research model is same with that of case A. The fifth chapter focuses on the relations between the strategies and learning outcome of Chinese character by contrasting the two students’similarities and differences of their learning strategies and character level in different stages.And finally try to find out the strategies that have obvious effect on learning outcome of Chinese character for preparatory students. The sixth chapter clarifies the views of this research and point out the deficiency of this paper and the project of further research.
