As Chinese is a complicated ideogram language,it has been daunting lots of foreign students in China on the path of Chinese language learning.We may rethink our way of research,studying the Chinese characters learning strategies of foreign students from a"learning" perspective,which is of great practical significance for both students and teachers.Based on a research on the Chinese characters learning strategies of the two preparatory classes of College of International Exchange of Central China Normal University,this thesis intends to analyze how the preparatory students have applied the learning strategies and to offer some advice on the Chinese characters teaching.This thesis consists of five chapters,which can be divided into three parts as shown below:The first part is the introduction in Chapter One,illuminating in the first place the significance of the research on Chinese characters learning strategies for teachers and foreign students.Next,the current domestic and overseas research status is introduced from three aspects:Chinese language learning strategies,Chinese characters learning strategies and the Chinese characters learning strategies of the preparatory foreign students.Lastly,an illustration of the approach of researching is made.The second part is the body part of this thesis,including the text from chapter two to chapter four.Basing on the respondent,the subject and the design of the questionnaire,chapter two illustrates the how design of the questionnaire used concerning Chinese characters learning strategies are made.Besides,the reliability of the questionnaire shows that the data of this survey is highly reliable.The third chapter analyzes the data of the survey from four aspects:the general situation of the learning strategies used by the students and the influence of the gender of the matriculation students,the learning motivation and the attitude of Chinese characters learning on the application of the Chinese characters learning strategies.From the general application of preparatory students' Chinese characters learning strategies,the most common strategy is the cognitive strategy and the social strategy,and the least common strategy is the compensatory strategy and memory strategy.From the influence of gender on the application of Chinese characters learning strategies,females' average frequency of the application of the Chinese characters learning strategies is higher than that of males' in general.Females' frequency of the application of meta-cognitive strategy and memory strategy is much higher than that of males'.The data analysis of the relationship between gender and Chinese characters learning strategies shows that only cognitive strategy has a very significant correlation with gender.From the influence of learning motivation on the application of Chinese characters learning strategies,most of the preparatory students' motivation is instrumental.They attach more importance to the practicality of Chinese characters rather than cultural connotations,preferring the cognitive strategies.From the influence of Chinese characters learning attitude on the application of Chinese characters learning strategies,the negative attitude of Chinese characters learning will influence the application of Chinese characters learning strategies to a certain extent.In view the research result in chapter three,chapter four puts forward two pedagogical suggestions:first,we must strengthen the training of the preparatory students' Chinese characters learning strategies;second,we must improve the teaching methods that teachers adopt.Part three is the conclusion part which is also the last chapter,summarizing the whole thesis.
