This study focuses on the concept of virtue between Confucian and Taoism. We put forward a special way to research the virtue of Laozi and Great learning. The way is through two important concepts:profound virtue and illustrious virtue to do it. After a review of the literature of the period of pre-Qin, we infer that profound virtue is an important concept of Taoism and illustrious virtue is a significant concept of Confucian.Through analyze the concept of virtue and the relationship between virtue and Tao. We point out that the relationship of the structure as well as "one body and two faces". Profound virtue and illustrious virtue are all based on Tao. From Laozi’s profound virtue we can find that the link between Tao and all other things is natural. Great learning’s illustrious virtue comes from the God (or nature). On the one hand profound virtue shows metaphysical dimension. On the other hand illustrious virtue reflects concrete dimension. The profound virtue of Laozi has the meaning of nature. The illustrious virtue has ethical significance.Laozi’s profound virtue is based on Tao and reflects inevitable significance. However, Great learning’s illustrious virtue means that we should to do something, so closely connect to every one.
