A Report On The Translation Of Angels Walking

The report is an English-Chinese translation report. The novel is chosen from the first three chapters of the Angels Walking, written by American female writer Karen Kingsbury. It is an inspiring story combined with Christmas customs, and readers cannot stop reading due to its ups and downs’ plot. It narrates two main characters who have encountered some difficulties and finally overcome them in their lives and try to meet a better life in the future. It is hoped that by translating this novel, a positive energy in life can be passed:When pursuing success, people should not lose themselves or give up when having difficulty in their lives, instead, people should believe in life and hold a firm belief because people who have faith will have a better life. In addition, by translating this work, one can deeply understand the relationship between translation theory and practice in translation and improve translation skill as well.This is a translation report combining translation practice with the theory of Acceptance Aesthetics by Jauss and Iser. Due to difference in Chinese and English, taken reader as center and be faithful to original text, some methods are adopted in translation, such as free translation, annotation, semantic adaptation, reset method and so on, aiming to make target text satisfy reader’s language and reading needs. In the translation process, some typical examples are chosen based on translation difficulties, which made a deeper analysis under the translation guiding theory.Through this translating practice, it is concluded that as a qualified translator, the target text should put readers as center and try best to make target readers have the same feelings with what the original readers have. Before starting translation work, one must make full preparation and choose the test of his or her own interest to achieve the aim. Having fully understood the original text, one should begin to translate. Translating is a long process, and only when the translator does more exercises can he or she improve the translation skills. In the process, translator must be carefully and seriously proof the translation so as to ensure the quality of the target text.
