This is a translation report of the Angel in My Pocket which is one of the bestsellers of the famous America novelist Sukey Forbes. The translator selects Chapter one and Chapter two to put into translation practice, then draws a conclusion of dealing with the problems according to the translation process and translation difficulties. The Angel in My Pocket is based on Naushon Island as its background, which is located in the northeast of America and belongs to Elizabeth Island. The original work tells a story of the author’s own experience of losing her six years old daughter, and then under the encouragement of her grandfather’s spirits of transcendentalism, she encounters a medium at last and after communicating with her she knows that her daughter is healthy and happy in the other side of the world. Since then she gradually finds the hope of life.During the process of translating Chapter one and Chapter two, the translator picks out few translation difficulties and takes some measures to deal with the problems. One of the two Chapters is mainly introducing the cultural background of Naushon Island, so there are many cultural words which look easy but cannot be translated literally. The translator has to translate them according to the context, or the translation version would be misunderstood. Besides, Chapter two is the introduction of the beginning of the story. This chapter vividly portrays the author and her husband’s complex thoughts and moods when their daughter becomes ill seriously, which requires the translator image and taste that kind of feelings and translate the complex circumstance and the moods as faithfully as possible. Furthermore, there are many hypotaxis English sentences in the original work, so how to translate these sentences into parataxis Chinese sentences is difficult. Thus, confronted with these problems, the translator takes four approaches to solve them, and during the process of writing the paper, the writer has had a better understanding of the translation methods, hoping to get some translation experiences which would be useful to the academic career.
