| The history of the Chinese language is an important branch of Chinese language studies, and Modern Chinese constitutes a key part in the study of the former. This is because Modern Chinese is a transition from Ancient Chinese to Contemporary Chinese. Therefore, the research of Modern Chinese not only aids in preserving and exploring Ancient Chinese, but also in studying and researching into Contemporary Chinese. The usage of preposition in Modern Chinese, as a main component of Chinese studies, has drawn the attention of the general linguistic field. In the past decades, research in preposition has yielded abundant fruit.This paper studies the usage of preposition in the Ming novel, the Chan Zhen Yi Shi, collects the materials in an exhaustive way, and categories the use of preposition according to its grammatical and semantic rules. Previous studies will also be consulted in order to give a detailed description and analysis of the features and development of preposition. This paper falls into five chapters. This first chapter includes a brief introduction of Chan Zhen Yi Shi and its author,the introduction which includes the significance of the topic, the status quo of the preposition study, problems to solve, research methods, innovation of the topic, the definition of preposition, and the classification of preposition.Chapter Two includes the categorization and description of prepositions. Through analysis, prepositions can be classified into five types based on time, scope, degree, cause, mode and effect.Chapter Three is concerned with two major parts of the structure of pre-phrases, namely, the types of pre-prepositions, the ellipsis, and inversion of pre-objects.Chapter Four summaries the functions of some key prepositions.The last chapter introduces the inheritance and development of Chan Zhen Yi Shi’s prepositions in Modern Chinese.The end presents the conclusion of the paper and explains its limits. |
