Since ancient times, China and Thailand have always been able to maintain a friendly relationship, frequent trade activities, and cultural exchanges. Language plays an important role in the communication process between the two countries. When we communicate, we need to know how to use the correct words, otherwise the communication failures will appear. Some word is prohibit or restricted from saying, which is called "taboo" in linguistics and "(?)" in Thai. Both sides need to understand each other’s language and culture. The proper word expression is important and if the speaker do not understand other party’s taboo, it can cause communication barriers or even lead to conflicts.This thesis mainly researches on the differences between Chinese taboos and Thai taboos which focusing on the reasons behind and the cultural content. The author discusses the reasons, influencing factors and how to avoid the taboo from ten aspects which are religious taboo, royal taboo, physiological defect taboo, gender and excretion, fierce disaster taboo words, taboos in daily life, holiday taboo, abusive language and vulgar taboo, digital taboo, taboo topics(society, privacy). This thesis will help overseas students who are learning Chinese and Thai. It can make a better understanding for them, help them avoid some conflicts in communication, and maintain a friendly relationship between two countries.
