The career counseling for prisoners may be the move essay to improve prisoners’ reform quality and reduce recidivism rate under the new situation.Based on the review of domestic and foreign research literature on career counseling, we made a systematical discussion on male prisoners’ career by using individual interviews, questionnaires and group counseling methods. In the individual interview, 10 male prisoners experienced two sentences were interviewed with the "career interview outline", and the purpose was to describe the career characteristics of male prisoners before they were released from prison. T he main conclusions are as follows:(1) The educational level of the interviewees are relatively low, thus the unde rstanding ability of the subjects should be considered in the preparation of the questionnaire and the main points of knowledge should be simple and easy to understand in group counseling.(2) Their marital status are relatively unstable. As the marriage is the protection factor of the occupation and the prevention of crime, the consciousness to explore the relationship between marital family status and professional status is necessary in the design of group counseling.(3) Items for inspection of factors of crime should be increased in the question naire as the reason of this crime is directly and indirectly related with the occupation status before captured.(4) Attention should be paid to provide information resources for members in design of group counseling, for their future occupation planning is relatively ambiguous.(5) Who have their own business ideas are most, awareness of designing content of entrepreneurship is necessary. In the questionnaire research, "prisoners’ career maturity questionnaire" composed by myself are effectively tested on 242 male prisoners. The purpose is to validate the validity of the questionnaire and provide measurement tools for group counseling research. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) The self-compiled " prisoners’ career maturity questionnaire " has high re liability(α=0.877)and validity, and is suitable for the use of male prisoners.(2) The scores of 242 subjects are from 3.26 to 3.61 points in six dimensions, which shows that the young male prisoners’ career maturity is at a moderate level. The two dimensions with lowest scores are "career planning"(3.26) and "self cognition"(3.40), it means that prisoners should improve the planning ability and have a better understanding of self occupation character during the specific career planning. In the research of group counseling, we designed “program for career group counseling", gave group guidance to a total of 17 members of two groups and provided the measurement using " prisoners’ career maturity questionnaire ", "self-identity status table", "career exploration questionnaire" and " test of material type criminals " and other tools before and after. The purpose is to verify the effect of group counseling, hoping to apply to the young male prisoners for promotion and application. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Group counseling can significantly improve the scores of members in the "career maturity questionnaire " and "career exploration questionnaire".(2) The improvement of "career maturity" does not mean the synchronization of the "self-identity status".(3)The group counseling did not aggravate incidentally the members’ psychological material desire during the promotion of the exploration of careers.(4) There were no significant differences between the two groups in the questionnaire survey before and after, which shows that the program has persistence in implementing effects.
