A Practice Report Of The Consecutive Interpreting On The Documentary Of Hexi Corridor

As the world is getting much more internationalized, films and TV programs have become important tools to disseminate culture. In the past several years, documentary films have aroused wide concerns from the public because they present factual events or circumstances of a social, political, or historical nature with real characters and real incidents as the main contents, and the revelation of reality as essence. Therefore, it’s necessary to translate domestic documentary into English to bring Chinese culture to the outside world.This report takes the form of translation project, including transcripts, audio and practice paper, and selects the documentary of Hexi Corridor as the interpreting practice. That Hexi Corridor is of great importance to China’s national strategy is chosen as the main theme of this documentary, fully presents Hexi Corridor’s status in the Chinese civilization as well as the important part it plays to promote the dissemination of the Chinese culture. However, this documentary only has the video in Chinese version, even without simultaneous English subtitles, which is a defect if we want to introduce it to foreign countries. Thus, this documentary was chosen as the interpreting practice material to improve the current situation. Study and analysis has been made from the vision of the foreign spectators and translators, and some translation skills are applied. Meanwhile, some questions or problems occurred in the course of translation are analyzed deeply and solved at last.This report consists of three parts, the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. In the main body, the first chapter is the description of the interpreting task, including contents of interpreting task, goals and features of the documentary. The second chapter elaborates the interpreting process, including the pre-interpreting preparation, execution of interpreting and the quality control after interpreting. The third chapter focuses on the case analysis in the course of interpreting. The terms of settlements will be given to solve the different problems and the handling information when it is in emergency. At the last part, conclusion has been made after the interpreting practice. It is sound to provide research materials for those scholars in this field.
