This report chooses the CCTV television documentary The Soul of China as the subject of a Chinese to English consecutive interpreting. The author selects the first and second episode of this television documentary to analyze in details. Through the comparison between the "unprepared" interpreting and "prepared" interpreting of this documentary, the author analyzes the results and writes this report. This report elaborates on the interpreting process of this television documentary, and lists several problems that occur in the process and puts forward the relevant coping tactics by analyzing the detailed examples.The report consists of three parts. In the introduction part, the author briefs the television documentary The Soul of China; the author also enumerates the difficulties she met in the interpreting; and the significance of choosing and interpreting this television documentary.The second part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is the description of the task. The author talks about the targets of this interpreting task, and the arrangements she made according to her own actual situation. The second chapter is the description of the interpreting process. The interpreter practiced twice on this television documentary. The first-time interpreting is finished under the precondition of "unprepared" interpreting practice. The second-time interpreting is "prepared" interpreting, and the interpreter makes a series of preparation according to the problems in the "unprepared" interpreting, namely, theme preparation, terminology preparation, language preparation and psychological preparation. After this consecutive interpreting, the author assesses the second-time consecutive interpreting from the perspective of the interpreting quality, allocation of attention and unforeseen element, then proofreads the interpreting result and edits the recording of it.Chapter Three is case analysis, which is the most significant chapter of this report. Combined with the situation of the two phases of interpreting, the author selects several specific examples in terms of words and sentences. On the words and phrases level, the author demonstrates how to interpret words and phrases with Chinese characteristics; given the sentences, the author attaches great importance to the parallel structure sentences in Chinese and how to deal with Chinese old sayings.In the conclusion part, the author reviews the whole process of the consecutive interpreting, and sums up the experience and shortcomings she learns through this practice.
