A Practice Interpreting Report On The Documentary Of Northeastward Adventure

During the postgraduate period, the author strictly followed MTI training scheme to study and practice, and completed interpreting practice task. Due to limitations in my ability, my practice was mainly consecutive interpreting. This thesis is based on the documentary (Northeastward Adventure) interpreted by the author in the second year of the postgraduate period.We need to introduce Chinese culture and Chinese history to foreign countries so as to promote international cultural exchanges, which requires a lot of Chinese-English translation work. Currently, many Chinese documentaries have no English version. I chose to interpret this documentary because it is well received by domestic audience since its broadcast, and its valuable point was truthfulness.This thesis is composed of three part:Chapter One focuses on the background of Northeastward Adventure as well as the reason for choosing it to point out research value and the basic skills required in consecutive interpreting.Chapter Two mainly introduces Process, including the preparations and the interpreting process, the former includes preparing materials and the glossary while the latter refers to the introduction of the whole interpreting.Chapter Three is the main body of the paper, which emphasizes the strategies applied in consecutive interpreting:amplification, omission, conversion, literal and free translation, etc. The author can apply the theories and strategies to specific interpreting practices and improve the practice abilities by herself as well as summarize the problems in the report, which may have a great effect on the author’s skills and our Chinese translation undertakings in documentary.
