This thesis is a report about a Chinese-to-English consecutive interpretation done by the author on two meetings concerning education projects between foreign education institutions.This report will analyze the C-E consecutive interpretation practice and discuss the translation methods applied in the author’s practice from the perspective of Professor Seleskovitch’ s Interpretive Theory.The Interpretive Theory believes that the goal of interpretation lies in conveying the meaning of speakers’ words and interpreters can pay less attention to structures of source languages.Professor Seleskovitch,based on the theory,proposed the Triangular Model: comprehension,de-verbalization and re-expression.The professor thinks that interpreters should convey meanings and emotion of speakers based on correct understanding,not duplicate the structures of source languages.The author analyses detailed cases in her translation practice from perspective of the Interpretive Theory,which aims at proving how effective and practical the Interpretive Theory applied in C-E consecutive interpretation is.The thesis consists of four parts.The first chapter briefly introduces author’s translation practice and thesis structure.The second chapter narrates how was the author’s translation conducted,including preparation before interpretation,details of on-task interpretation and post-task conclusion.The third gives an exact study of cases in translation practice from the Interpretive Theory,including explaining the core of the Interpretive Theory,analyzing the details based on theory and conclude translation strategies,which is the main body of the thesis.The fourth is about conclusion and self-reflection,including how professional and technical this translation practice is,finding problems occurred during the practice and its reasons and proposing corresponding amendments.The author,based on the Interpretive Theory,concludes four translation strategies that can be helpful in Chinese-to English consecutive interpretation.The author anticipates that the thesis can give theoretical and technical references for people who work on interpretation and relative scholars.The thesis is expected to provide real help for learning and working of C-E consecutive interpretation.
