In the year of 1789, the French Revolution broke up and the sprit of liberty, equality, fraternity and human rights is the main themes, which not only liberated the whole of the French people, but also emancipate the Jews who lived in France. In the early days of the Revolution, Jews who lived in France inspired by the spirit of the French Revolution, they worked hard to go after their own emancipation. On September 27, 1791, the Constituent Assembly passed a resolution and declared to grant French Jews the civil rights,which meaned that French Jews had equal legal status for the first time in history. From a global viewpoint of the whole status of Jews, the "emancipation" of Jews in France was the first step towards the liberation of the whole of the Jews, which affected in France and throughout Europe enormously.This dissertation analyzes the Jewish Emancipation in the early of The French Revolution through mainly four sections:The first chapter reviews the social situation of French Jews in the old regime. By analysing the situation of the French Jewish community in the southwestern of France, in the southeastern of France and in the northeast of France,the paper has a conclusion: before the revolution, the French Jews in general, were not to be accepted by French society,but there were two characteristics in French Jewish community. Firstly, the development was unbalanced among communities; secondly, French Jews had integrated into French society more or less. These characteristics also affected the Jewish communities emancipation pace.The second chapter analyzes the consciousness and action of Jewish emancipation in evening of the old regime. The French Jewish gradually sought emancipation, sought for national "régeneration" and became a member of a French citizen by the efforts of French enlightened person and the French Jewish.The third chapter discusses the situation of Jewish emancipation in detail. French enlightened person and the French Jewish gained the legal status for the Jews in the Assemblée Nationale Constituante. The French National Constituent Assembly declared the 150 Portuguese Jews and Avignon Jews had full citizenship on January 28, 1790. On September 27 th 1791, the French National Constituent Assembly voted to give the Alsace- Lorraine region Jews citizenship, and the parliament recognized the French jews‘ rights of citizens.The fourth chapter discusses that after the 1791 Constitution gives all Jews in France citizenship, the jews had the same status in political, economic and religious aspects with a French citizen. This was the first step in the emancipation of the Jews of Europe, which also affected the fate of European Jews. The jews began to set foot on modernization.
