The present author, summarizing his own experience in translating the biography Somerset Maugham: A Life, studies possibilities of abandoning traditional notions like part of speech in the working process. Instead, he applies Norm Chomsky’s concept of kernel sentence in the process of syntax analysis to circumvent and vanquish obstacles in forming syntactic structures in the TL text.Introducing isomorphs as keys to interpretation, he enumerates translation techniques like verbalization, aiming to achieve functional equivalence. |
