[Objectives]This research aims to investigate the current situation of idol worship of middle school students born after the year of 2000, and to compare the similarities and differences in idol worship between resident middle school students and migrant middle school students through the qualitative research. Then, the research analyze further the inner process of idol worship and the moderating effect of self-identity through the quantitive part.[Methods]Research Subjects:Middle school students born after the year of 2000, including resident middle school students and migrant middle school students, are the participants, and are compared in idol worship.Qualitative research:1. Free response test is conducted on 19 resident middle school students and 16 migrant middle school students, to study the cognition to idols.2. The depth interview uses a self-developed semi-structure depth interview and is conducted on 8 teachers,15 resident middle school students and 10 migrant middle school students, to know about the reason of idol worship, the influence of self-identity to idol worship, the worship involvement, and school education on idol worship. Quantitive Research:Idolatry Trait Questionnaire, revision of the Celebrity Attitude Scale and Self- Identity Scale are used as tools, and are conducted on 356 resident middle school students and 289 migrant middle school student, to measure the situation of idol worship reasons and involvement, and self-identiy, also to check the moderating effect of self-identity.[Conclusions]1. "Virtual characters" newly become the idols due to their super power and perfect image among middle school students born after the year of 2000.2. Middle school students born after the year of 2000 are more attracted to idols’looks and works than the social characters in mental structure.3. Comparing to resident middle schoold students, migrants students’s worship is more shallow and simple, with more comformity and less personalities and idol images.4. Self-identity strengthens the relationship between idolatry reason and involvement, the worship involvement of middle school students with high level self-identity is less influenced by the whorship reasons, and more rational and under control.
