A Report On The C-E Translation Of Hybrid Rice Technical Training Manual

Technical translation accounts for a large proportion of translation,with many unique characteristics and requirements. To properly settle logical relation of the sentences is a basic requirement of technical translation. English and Chinese languages show logical relations in different ways. Generally, Chinese is a parataxis language, with the logics hidden in the context in many occasions, while English is hypotaxis and tends to manifest the logics with noticeable markers.Hybrid Rice Technical Training Manual is a technical text specialized in agronomy, the translation aim of which is to assist the agronomic experts from some developing countries in the study of hybrid rice techniques. The thesis is a report after the translation practice of it.After the translation practice, the author found that the settlement of logical relation is a difficult point, which requires the translator to grasp the logics in the original text and adopt proper strategies to convey them to the target language(TL) readers. For the concern for the TL readers,the translator worked out the basic strategy, namely to emphasize the understanding of the readers and thus find proper English expressions to manifest the logical relations of the original text. By analyzing examples,the thesis try to conclude the translation methods of logical relations,including causal relation, general-individual relation and parallel relation.Adding linking words and adjusting word order are common methods.The translation practice is quite helpful for the author to improve translation ability and the translation project is meaningful for spreading advanced Chinese technology and benefiting people.
