With the continuous deepening of reform and opening up and increasing international status, China is attaching more and more attention worldwide from the economic development, social construction, livelihood projects and democratic rights, which has increasingly become the major topic of the international community. The state council holds a press conference after the NPC and CPPCC sessions every year. And the premier of China will answer many different kinds of questions from media journalists worldwide. The interpreting process of this kind of press conference is completely a challenge. Most of the journalists are high level professional and skilled coming from all over the world. And the interpreters who work for this conference must be high level skilled, experienced, healthy and with some proper strategies. As a influential public relations activities, the press conference often use consecutive interpretation as its main way of interpreting process and it has the characteristics of high timeliness, political influence, broad content and so on.Jef Verschueren argues that human beings are able to make choices when they use some languages. The Adaptation Theory analyses the dynamic process of language use. Interpreting transfers information from one language to another, which provides the possibility for the application of the Adaptation Theory in interpreting. This thesis is written on the basis of Adaptation Theory, which was proposed by Jef Verschueren. The author intends to study the application of Adaptation Theory in the interpreting process of the press conferences by analyzing the translation texts of the press conference in the year of 2014 and 2015. This thesis aims to explore some proper interpreting method of the press conference from a pragmatic perspective. It is hoped that the study can provide some guidance for the interpreters in the interpreting practice.
