Sentence Structure In C-E Interpretation Under The Guidance Of Adaptation Theory: A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting For 2021 Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conference

The material for this mock interpretation report is from the press conference of the Premier’s Q＆A in 2021.This press conference covers numerous hot issues related to China’s development.The press conference lasts for about 110 minutes,and the speaker speaks at a moderate speed with a smooth and fluent flow,which can serve as a good material for this mock interpretation.In this simulated Chinese-English interpretation,the author interprets and records her interpretation after some preparation.Afterwards,the author transcribes the simulated interpretation recording and compares it with the official interpretation for analysis.This thesis is based on the Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef Verschueren.From his perspective of adaptability in the adaptation theory,the author proposes to analyze sentence structures of Chinese-English interpretation based on structural objects of adaptability.The author analyzes sentence structures in Chinese-English interpretation and gets to the bottom of the messed-up sentence structures,including unfamiliarity with English sentence structures and bad note-taking.Unfamiliarity with English sentence structures causes messed-up sentence structures,leading to ambiguity and grammatical mistakes.Bad note-taking,including an over dependence on source language and a lack of a strategic structure,influences the flow of interpretation,such as too many pauses and a lack of logic,so the author proposes some corresponding solutions from the perspective of structural objects of adaptability.As for sentence structures,the author introduces three kinds of sentence structures in English and elaborates on how and when to use them;when it comes to note-taking,the author illustrates a way to take some target language-oriented notes and improve the arrangement of the notes to better serve for the output later;for interpretation,the author describes in detail about how a correct selection of the subject and the use of transition words and prepositions can facilitate the flow of interpretation,hoping to offer some insights for Chinese-English interpretation practice and helping people convey Chinese cultures and thoughts to the world.
