As China further opens to the outside world, tourism industry has become a significant channel for cross-culture exchange. Panoramic scenic spot introduction(hereinafter referred to as PSSI), a branch of tourism literature, plays a more and more important role in spreading Chinese culture and attracting international visitors.Shaanxi, a historical province, is endowed with abundant tourism resources. But there are still many problems on C-E translation of Shaanxi PSSI, which may hinder the cross-culture communication. Therefore, conscientious efforts should be made to study these problems.According to translation skopos theory, attaining the function of tourism text is priority. In this thesis, guided by skopos theory, the author compared and contrasted language features between Chinese and English PSSI, analyzed the translation problems of Shaanxi PSSI, and at last gave some translation techniques. After analysis, the author concluded, Chinese PSSI is relatively flowery, subjective, and has abundant quotations, while English PSSI is plain, concise, objective, logical, and addresses its readers. Due to failures in attaining the text functions, some C-E translations of Shaanxi PSSI have problems on linguistic, pragmatic, and cultural levels. On linguistic level, misspelling, poor diction and grammatical problems are very common. On pragmatic level, some information that only makes sense in Chinese are translated into English, which is redundant. Besides, some information that seems necessary in English PSSI for English readers are missing. On cultural level, the meaning of flowery words, quotations and cultural terms in Chinese are not translated properly. At last the author came up with omission, addition, analogy, rewriting techniques to solve or, at least revise the problems.
