This is a report on the translation of the excerpts of The Longest Ride, a romantic novel written by Nicolas Sparks. This book tells us the remarkable story of two couples whose lives intersect in profound and surprising ways. Due to the differences between Chinese and English, a lot of difficulties were encountered in the translation of the Longest Ride. This report focuses on analyzing these problems with the guidance of some translation theories and proposing relevant solutions. This translation report includes four parts. Part one is task description, which is mainly composed of an introduction to the book and the author as well as a description of the translation procedure such as preparation, while-translation and post-translation issues. Part two gives an analysis of the source text including the content of the translation materials, features of the source text, and source text type analysis. Part three is the case study, in which the present writer concentrates on how to solve three kinds of problems including the language-related problems, cultural-related problems and context-based problems by making full use of some translation strategies and skills, including but not limited to conversion, extension, recasting and change of voice. Part four is a summary of my report, comprising findings and limitations during translation.
