This is a translation report of The University Challenge: Higher Education Markets and Social Stratification by Lesley Pugsley. This report, under the three rules of Vemeer’s Skopos theory, the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, demonstrates the employment of the three rules of Skopos theory in the translation practice. The main contents of this translation report are divided into four parts. Part One is the introduction to the translation project, including project background, the significance of the project and Skopos theory which deems that the purpose of translation activity decides the process of translation. Part Two states the main idea of The University Challenge: Higher Education Markets and Social Stratification, the analysis of the source text structure and some comments on the book. Part Three is case study under the guidance of Skopos theory, a chapter in which the translator discusses the choice of different translation strategies and techniques. Part Four arrives at some conclusions and draws experience from the process of translation. |
