| The report is based on the translation of Higher Education in 2040: A Global Approach by Bert van der Zwaan.Taking as examples the higher education in North America,Asia and Europe,this book discusses the dilemmas and problems of higher education,points out the key factors influencing its development in the next few decades,and outlines the university in 2040.The source text of this translation practice is selected from Chapter 16 to Chapter 19 of the third part of this book,which outlines the future of university from four different perspectives.The report analyzes the linguistic features of the source text,such as the extensive use of proper nouns,polysemous words and abstract nouns on the lexical level,sentences in passive voice and long complicated sentences on the syntactic level,and cohesive devices on the textual level In addition,under the guidance of the three rules of Vermeer"s Skopos theory,this report will dwell on the translation techniques successfully employed to cope with the difficulties in the translation practice.Specifically,on the lexical level,the translator translates proper nouns,polysemous words and abstract nouns by referring to parallel texts,and adopting conversion,specification and other skills.On the syntactic level,translation skills such as conversion,liner translation,division and adjustment of word order are adopted to deal with sentences in passive voice and lengthy complicated sentences.On the textual level,to make the translation as coherent as possible,the skills of amplification,omission and specification are employed.This report summarizes translation techniques based on specific cases,hoping to provide references for the translation of similar texts. |
