| An analysis of foreign insurance materials helps national insurance companies know the latest developments of foreign insurance markets and learn from their successful experience. The translation material the thesis chooses in this report is Ernst & Young: Global Insurance Consumers Survey Report 2012 which consists of 11,443 words in total. Its main content is to introduce the current situation of life, annuity, property, casualty, the market problems and methodology of solving these problems.Three contents are mainly discussed in this translation report: first, introduce the text type and its features, translation strategy and principles of the business insurance material; second, point out translation difficulties and methods in this material; third, summarize the translation methods adopted in translation. The third part is the most important part of the report. Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory, this thesis elaborates the specific translation methods of the insurance material.The translation of business insurance materials presents difficulty for the translator. Therefore the translator should make full preparation in advance, collect the related knowledge, research the text type and features of the insurance materials and determine the translation strategy and principles. This thesis mainly focuses on the translation methods of nouns and adjectives, the passive voices, long sentences and attributive clauses. To be specific, the following specific translation methods come into use in translating business insurance materials: conversion, addition, omission, passive voice to active voice, order adjustment, attributive clauses translated as pre-modifiers and coordinate clauses.Through the analysis of the business insurance material in this report, the thesis hopes that translation methods that summarized can provide perspective of reference and methods for the latter translators of the similar materials. |
