Interpreting Report On China’s Manufacturing Service Upgrade From Dialogue

This thesis is an interpreting report on “China’s manufacturing service upgrade” from Dialogue. Dialogue invited Song Zhiping and other experts to share their views on how to transform manufacture industry into the manufacture service industry. Due to the special features of this episode of Dialogue, the interpreter needs to be fully prepared for the technical terms in order to guarantee the smoothness of the entire program. In addition, the interpreter needs to adopt various interpreting strategies because different speakers in the program have their own language styles and the program is informative and lyrical. The interpreting process is guided by Interpretive Theory, which requires the interpreter to forget about the form of language but focus on the meaning.In the interpreting process, the interpreter has to be familiar with the relevant professional fields and the technical terms in this episode. However, the interpreter cannot make it too academic since the audience may feel bored. So choosing the best way to explain the technical terms is a major task. Most of the time, the interpreter interprets according to the original word order of sentences. Sometimes, however, the order has to be readjusted according to various logical relations. Besides, the interpreter plays a role as a culture medium that can help eliminate cultural barriers and promote communication of different cultures.
