A Practice Report On The Translation Of 2012 Financial Report Of Us Government

In 2004, the Western Language College of Harbin Normal University is entrusted by the Budget Engineering Committee of Heilongjiang to translate a report entitled “2012 financial report of US government”, which is acted as the main part of this thesis. The author tries to make a brief introduction concerning such translation task from the client requirements and task features. Besides the limited time and quality requirements, this thesis is also characterized by involving large numbers of terminologies and amount of specialized knowledge. Realizing the features and the difficulty of such translation task, the author makes a planning process and a great deal of advance preparation which includes financial accounting background information, parallel texts and relevant terminologies with the purpose of making a better completion of this translation task. Meanwhile, the author analyzes the text with the theory of Register Theory and Skopos Theory etc. The author tries to solve the problems encountering during translation about financial report in a more targeted approach.Initially, this paper analyzes and concludes the difficulties during the translation of “2012 financial report of US government” from an overall perspective, focusing on the problems and solutions of terminologies, long difficult sentences as well as complicated sentences. In terms of terminology, through the classification and the help of ancillary tools such as online dictionaries, Google search engine, and parallel texts, the author could find some solutions especially using some translation technologies. In terms of sentences, the financial report is featured by long difficult sentences, the passive sentences and the complicated sentences, and the author illustrates the translation strategies with the examples accompanied by grammar books and relevant knowledge. In the last stage, the author makes some conclusions from the preparation and translation process and translation review respectively and gets some reflection concerning such translation task “2012 financial report of US government”.
