Since China has become a member of WTO, the volume of import and export increase gradually. As a big trading country in the world, we need to bring into correspondence with the international conventions, laws and any other regulations. Thus, it is necessary to translate these conventions or laws written in English into Chinese in order to make China establish higher public trust.The report is based on International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers(STCW for short), focusing on the flexibility and integration of legal parlance on such type of text. This convention is enacted by IMO, which plays a positive impact on the development of shipping industry, the level of technology on ships, multinational manning of ship and the safety at the sea. The convention involves numerous legal parlance, and the annex 1-3 of the general provisions in Chapter â… and the Chapter â…¡(Master and deck department) are chosen as the case in the practical report. In the process of translating, the writer adapts some means, including understanding the general idea, finding the elements, adding modifier, adjusting order to realize the flexibility and integration of the long sentences in English legal parlance. And the writer concludes the practical gain and experience by this practice to expect to offer some enlightenment for this type of text.
