Tianlin District’s Mubing Yao Traditional Music Research

Mubing Yao, ancient name Changfa Yao or Changtou Yao, lives in Pingshan Village located in Liangping Town, about 90km away from the downtown of Tianlin County. Being in deep mountains, population distribution here is centralized. Because of geographic limitations and inconvenient transportation, economy of this district develops slowly. However, it in turn retains the local distinctive music culture and the original history appearance. Its unique artistic form and cultural resources are indispensable part of the treasure house of the traditional minority national music art. Due to coexistence with the local customs and culture, Mubing Yao’s traditional music shows a distinctively local feature. It plays an important role in the local people spiritual life. Music embodies all the excellent cultural elements of this ethnic group. It reflects not only the Mubing Yao’s national psychology and national temperament, but the essential part of their unique cultural characteristics as well.Mubing Yao’s traditional music, originates from Tianlin, Guangxi Province, is chosen as the research object. With the theory and methods of anthropology and ethnology, this thesis comprehensively collects and analyzes the materials on its ecological environment, historical origin, musical types and forms, and the deep cultural connotation of its music. The thesis is mainly divided into the following several parts:Introduction:about the research subject, give an outline of the current situation, the purpose, significance, range, object, the data sources of research, research methods and so on.Chapter 1:generally describe the Tianli district Mubing Yao’s living environment, ethnic origin, religion, basic necessities of life, traditional festivals, in order to better understanding the background of Mubing Yao’s traditional music culture.Chapter 2:from the perspective of music form, discuss the basic situation and characteristics of folk songs, dance, instrumental music and instruments of the Mubing Yao’s traditional music.Chapter 3:for showing the essential music characteristics, analyze the melodious tune, musical structure, melody tone, rhythm and beat of folk music and instrumental music of Mubing Yao’s traditional music,Chapter 4:from the Mubing Yao’s traditional music form and connotation, further reveal and interpret its music’s cultural speciality, elaborate present situation of the music, and put forward problems and suggestions of protection, transmission and development of its culture.
