| World of Warcraft is a popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game all over the world.Of Blood and Honor belongs to one of popular books that depict the world of World of Warcraft.Of Blood and Honor has created lots of impressive characters to establish an attractive game world.Readers of this game fiction are able to integrate into the world and feel the bitter fate of the characters thoroughly in the course of playing this game.World of Warcraft is a role-playing game,and its game reputation is directly associated with its game characters.Therefore,this translation report looks for proper translation strategies in character translation in Of Blood and Honor,with an intention to improve the reputation of the game and its market shares.At present,translators have not paid enough attention to the translation of the game fiction.However,as a new fiction genre,the game fiction has a broad market and numerous readers,showing the convergence and changes between games and literature under the era of Internet.As a new text type,the game fiction has its own feature,which is mainly embodied as narrativity.The narration of the game fiction plot focuses on the protagonist view.Reiss’s Text Typology Theory suggests that translators should use corresponding translation strategies based on different text types.From the perspective of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory,Of Blood and Honor is a typical operative text.Therefore,the translator should pay much attention to readers and adopt proper strategies to urge readers to feel,think and take actions.This translation report aims to explore proper translation strategies in character translation from the perspective of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory.Of Blood and Honor is divided into eight chapters,and it has a total of more than 90,000 words.This translation report extracts the first three chapters as translation project with 12000 words more or less.The only official translation text of this book is published by New Star Press in November,2017,and Liuyuan is the writer.By comparing Liuyuan’s translation text with the translator’s text,the translator will analyze the proper translation strategies in game fiction translation.This translation report is divided into five parts.Chapter one is project briefing,mainly including three parts: the first part is an introduction of some necessary background information of this project;the second part introduces the concept of the game fiction and its features;the last part mainly talks about the project significance by analyzing game market status and the relation between the game fiction and computer games.Chapter two is the translation processes.Chapter three is the theoretical framework,discussing the direction of translation strategies in Of Blood and Honor from the perspective of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory.Chapter four is the case study.In this chapter,three aspects are discussed by the way of comparing Liuyuan’s translation text with the translator’s translation text: character translation methods in story background;character translation methods in action description;character translation methods in psychological description.Based on the perspective of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory,amplification translation method,adaptation translation method,repetition translation method and translation method of adjustment in sentence order are introduced to work out character translation problems in this game fiction.The last part is the conclusion,mainly discussing the translator’s understanding of the game fiction translation. |
