“Tongguo” is a character of Level A in National Syllabus of Graded Words and Characters for Chinese Proficiency, which should be mastered in initial stage by foreign students. Overseas students often make mistakes when using preposition “Tongguo”. In the current study of preposition “Tongguo”, many scholars focus mainly on the ontology research of preposition “Tongguo”, while in terms of the study of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language is still void. Based on the existing ontology research of preposition “Tongguo”, this research analyzes its situation in textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language and HSK, collecting a lot of corpus from HSK dynamic Composition Corpus and uses error-analysis method, and investigates whether students are very liable to make mistakes with preposition “Tongguo” along with the reason that leads to the errors. Through the above analytic research, this study provides an effective teaching strategy for teaching Chinese as a foreign language of preposition “Tongguo”.This thesis consists of five parts.Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to first explain the reason why choosing preposition “Tongguo” as the content to study, and then summarizes the ontology research and the present situation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language of the preposition “Tongguo”. The research theories, research methods and the source of all corpus are also illustrated in the end.Chapter 2 analyses the feature of the preposition “Tongguo” from semantic and grammatic perspectives. The preposition “Tongguo” and its synonyms are discriminated in the end of the chapter.In chapter 3, this thesis first investigates and analyses the situation of the preposition “Tongguo” in HSK. The next step is to collect and analyze a lot of corpus from HSK dynamic Composition Corpus to ascertain that the errors type is words-mixing, addition or omission. Finally the reason why the errors have been produced is explained.Based on the results of previous chapters, chapter 4 proposes suggestions from designing teaching scheme and compiling the textbook. The suggestion of textbook compilation is based on the situation of the preposition “Tongguo” in textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language.Chapter 5 is conclusion part. Main ideas, innovations as well as limitations of the research are presented.
