A Report On Mock SI With Text Of Shenzhou-10 Space Lecture

The report is a mock practice of simultaneous interpretation(SI) with source text of Shenzhou-10 space lecture. Shenzhou-10 is the fifth manned spacecraft of China. Wang Ya-ping, a female astronaut will teach a lesson about motion of objects in zero gravity in the space for the first time. According to the Effort Model of Gile, the author mainly analyzes the interpretation of the short video of the lecture, which aims to discuss the role of preparation before interpretation and the impact of source text on simultaneous interpreters.Preparation before interpretation can be divided into short-term preparation and improvised preparation. In short-term preparation, the author collects some materials about Shenzhou-10 space lecture and makes a term list. And in the stage of improvised preparation, the author analyzes complicated sentences and grasps the main idea; and tries to release pressure. And the quality has been evaluated according to the completeness and accuracy of the interpretation. The case indicates the impact of text on interpreters.Effective and thorough preparation before interpretation guarantees a fluent interpretation. And text can ensure the completeness of content, but it also distracts interpreters’ attention. Therefore, interpreters should use text appropriately instead of relying too much on it.
