With the rapid economic developments in China, more and more international collaborations are being carried out and more and more interpreters are needed in China, so the interpreting has become increasingly more important. According to the Interpretive Theory of Translation, it is the meanings and ideas that are supposed to be translated or interpreted, rather than words or phrases themselves, and the interpretive theory plays a crucial part in almost all the interpreting processes. In order to achieve the effects of interpreting, the interpreter could use methods include amplification, omission as well as paraphrase.This report is based on a consecutive interpreting of Lu Ping’s Speech My Learning Career delivered in2005, consisting of five chapters. The first chapter is about the task description. The writer briefly gives some background information of Lu Ping’s Speech, its characteristics and the significance of writing this report. The second chapter is about the preparations before the interpreting activities such as the mental preparations, background knowledge of Lu Ping’s speech, and predictions of vocabularies to be used, equipment set up for the event. The third chapter is the detailed descriptions of the interpreting process, including activity plan, simulation scenes, and evaluations by the listeners. The fourth chapter is about problems and difficulties the writer faced during the simulation interpreting. The writer summarizes a few major mistakes she made, such as missing translation, faulty translation, wordiness, hesitation, etc. The fifth chapter is the brief review of the whole report. The writer gives a few solutions to the problems, which are consistent with the points she has mentioned in the previous chapters and she finally gives some suggestions regarding about how to be a more successful interpreter.
