Abstract/Summary:
Use of acronyms and abbreviations is critical in the modern, technological language era. While the use of acronyms and abbreviations may condense information and ease communication between people who speak the same language, it can also be a challenge for those trying to bridge the gap between multiple languages. This study aims to recognize and understand the challenges associated with interpreting acronyms and abbreviations between English and Chinese. Using Gile’s Effort Model, the study will consider acronyms as a problem trigger, the degree to which problems may occur, and what strategies an interpreter may use to counter some of the challenges.
