| Based on the Effort Model of Daniel Gile,this paper is focused on explaining what the influence of Chinese abbreviations has on the Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpreting and analyzing the coping strategies that the interpreters use in face of the Chinese abbreviations in Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpreting.In the first part,the Effort Model,problem trigger and failure sequences are introduced to give the theoretical support for the paper.In the same chapter,former studies on Chinese abbreviations are also elaborated,including the definition,the classification,the way of its formation.The translation methods are introduced too to give support for analyzing the coping strategies of the interpreters.In the second part,the paper focuses on the empirical research.This includes some basic information about the preparation,process of the experiment and interpreters who participate in the experiment.Based on the results of six interpreters,detailed analysis is made and conclusion is reached through quantitative and qualitative analysis.The paper concludes that the Chinese abbreviation is a problem trigger,which leads quality deterioration of Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpreting.Six interpreters omits the information or makes mistakes while encountering Chinese abbreviations.During the Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpreting,six interpreters use the strategies such as explanation,summary,word-to-word translation and fixed translation. |
