A Translation Report On Police Ethics The Noble Cause Corruption (An Excerpt)

This is a translation report. The original material is taken from Police Ethics The Noble Cause Corruption by Michael A. Caldero and John P. Crank. The original material introduces knowledge concerning police ethics from three parts, with part 1 value-based decisionmaking and the ethics of noble cause, part 2 noble cause corruption, and part 3 ethics and police in a time of change respectively. Hopefully this translation report will benefit the construction of harmonious society and ruling China by law and the prevention of the police corruption.This translation report is divided into four chapters. The author introduced the background, the significance and aims of this report in chapter 1. In chapter 2, the author systematically analyzed the structure and the content of the original as well as the preparation for this report including professional knowledge and reference books. In chapter 3, the author pointed out the key and difficult points in this program and explained them by listing examples from four aspects: namely translation of legal concepts, translation of slangs, translation of synonyms as well as translation of punctuations. In chapter 4 the author arrived at the conclusion that translator should not only have the bilingual capacity, but also have common English and American legal knowledge as well as wide linguistic, cultural and encyclopedic knowledge. More importantly, the author, based on profoundly general translation theories, tried to conclude the basic principles and skills on legal translation: the achievement of correspondence in the legal effects in the process of legal translation.
