This report is based on the translation project of Chapter Three ‘The Translator as Learner’ in Becoming a Translator- An Accelerated Course, whose author is Douglas Robinson, American translator and translation theorist. Douglas mainly discusses the necessity and possibility after the professionalization of translation and also gives detailed comments on the mainstream contemporary Western translation theories.Chapter three mainly introduces translator’s intelligence, memory and learning styles.This report makes a thorough review of the translation practice from translation difficulties, pre-translation preparation respectively and introduces the background,significance and goal and structure of the translation report. The author generally analyzes linguistic features of the book and figures of speech in Chapter three. In the translation process, the author expounds his handling of translation methods with abundant examples cited from both lexical level and syntactic level, aiming at generating an authentic target text for readers. The author summarizes post-translation reflection obtained from this translation project. From the author’s perspective,comprehensive pre-translation is necessary in practical translation, and improvement of bilingual proficiency can avoid grammatical errors and produce fluent and acceptable translation versions. A qualified translator should have solid linguistic and theoretical foundations, which is beneficial to translation.
