This article, from the respective of cognitive linguistics which regards metaphor as away of thinking and a means of cognition, explores the historical and theoreticaldevelopment of metaphor, mainly classifies the metaphorical connections with linguistics,lexical evolution as well as culture, devoted to the expansion of Chinese teachingmethods as a foreign language in lexical and cultural sense under new challenges.The first part introduces main researching backgrounds and methods and how theydevelop home and abroad, and finally concludes the philosophical foundation andtheoretical definition about this thesis. The second part clarifies how metaphor workswith linguistics, and proves its feasibility to apply metaphor into C hinese teaching as aforeign language. The third part by citing some familiar examples of Chinese words, suchas “Ping Jing”,“Li”and idiom “Ju QI Bu Ding” emphasizes the importance of metaphoricalusage in Chinese lexical expansion and evolution. And also metaphorically explainsChinese words “Huo Keng”,”Huo”, pointing out several teaching requests when applyingmetaphor into Chinese lexical teaching as a foreign language. The forth part namely thelast part of this thesis indicates the relationship between metaphor and culture, and howimportant role the metaphor plays in Chinese teaching as a foreign language from culturalangle. At last constructively suggests poem teaching when imparting Radical Metaphor.
