A Study On Rhythmic Style Of Zaju In The North In Early Ming Dynasty

As a prosperity literature and a part of Yuan Dynasty, Zaju in thenorth in the early Ming has not get the attention in academic fielddue to the nature of the aftermath in Palace Zaju and Yuan Drama,though it has experienced a temporary prosperity under theguidance of authority. The present study from the perspective ofphonology, select52kinds of works of Zaju in the north, make adetailed investigation in their rhythmic styles.There are2629tune names of songs in Zaju in the north of theearly Ming. Apart from10North drama Gongdiao of Xianlv,Zhenggong, Zhonglv, Banshe,Shuangdiao,Nanlv, Shangdiao,Huangzhong, Yuediao and Dashidiao, they also used6Nanqu ofXianlv, Zhonglv, Nanlv, Yuediao Shuangdiao and Xianlv intoshuangdiao, altogether249tunes. After summarizing, it shows thatthe nineteen rhyme category of Zhongyuan Yinyun were usedindependently in these works. However, the rhythmic style of Zajuin the north of the early Ming is not very simple, the usagephenomenon of mixed rhyme category still very frequently, twosystems of rhyme categories mixed-use not only in their Internalsides, but also between two systems. The evolution of speech is theroot cause in attributing this phenomenon. The rhymes of Zaju in the north of the early Ming is not all thesame with the words collected in Zhongyuan Yinyun. According tostatistics, it used2711rhymes in52kinds of Zaju in the north, andmost of them were collected in Zhongyuan Yinyun, few of them notcollected by it, such as Qiwei rhyme”zhi(职)”, Yumu rhyme “cu(麄)”,Gengqing rhyme “ying(莺)” and so on. In addition, few two readingwords, such as “fu(浮)”,“mou(谋)”,“rou(揉)”,“ke(刻)” and so on, theyall belong to two rhymes.Zaju in the north of the early Ming named after Yuan Dynasty,the two were all abide to Zhongyuan Yinyun in rhyme using, and allexit mixed-use in rhyme using, the most significant difference is theindependent use of the nineteenth rhyme, while the latter one justused eight rhymes, rhyme category of Huanhuan were just appearedin other rhymes.
