| The Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) has been a hotspot in foreignlanguage education since its establishment in2007. Its development has embodied theharmonious cooperation between the academia and the industry, showing that thetranslation industry and education institutions have reached a consensus in theeducation of highly qualified translators and interpreters. Shandong is a majorprovince of education and there are14colleges and universities in Shandong thathave established MTI. This investigation selects Shandong University, ShandongNormal University, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, ChinaUniversity of Petroleum, Ocean University of China, Yantai University and LudongUniversity as the objects of study. Through the methods of questionnaire survey,personal interview and archives-checking, this investigation collects relatedinformation about the cultivation of MTI students in the colleges and universities ofShandong in three stages, i.e. pre-learning, while-learning and after-learning. Thisseven-month investigation began in September,2014and finished in March,2015.This investigation finds out that the development of MTI programs in Shandong hasachieved great accomplishments. From the aspects of hardware, faculty, curriculum tointernships and employment, all the colleges and universities have accumulated richexperiences in carrying out the program. However, there are still shortages, such asoutdated conceptions, disorientation and incoordination remaining in the developmentof MTI programs. The purpose of this investigation lies in summarization andreflection as well as exploration and discovery. This paper focuses on the analysis ofthe common phenomena and special rules of MTI education of colleges anduniversities in Shandong. On the basis of gathered statistics, this paper also tries touncover the opportunities for the development of MTI programs in Shandong. |
