This translation report is based on the translation practice of the operation manual Spin Test System Description and Layout of the Machine which was compiled by SCHENCK RoTec GmbH. The translator chooses chapter one and chapter two as the source text. These two chapters mainly focus on general information and general safety introduction. It is very important for the personnel to read the technical documentation before installing and commissioning the machine and obey the safety introduction for prevention of accidents, and that is one of the reasons why the translator chooses these two chapters. At present, more and more enterprises in China import advanced equipment from abroad with English operation introductions and installation manuals. If the Chinese technical personnel can not read the English operation manual, it would bring great inconvenience for the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and procurement of spare parts of the machine. Therefore, the study of the translation of English operation introduction is very important. At the same time, this translation report can provide reference for translators who are interested in this kind of translation in the translation of terminologies, translation theory and methods of English for science and technology. This translation report begins with an introduction of the translation project, including the project background, objectives, significances and the report structure. And then, the translator gives a description of the project, including the content and characteristics of the source text. The next part of this thesis is about pre-translation preparation, translation difficulties, translation theory and methods. The guidance theory of this translation report is Skopostheorie, a central theory of Functionalist Translation Theory. To convey the information of the source text accurately, the translator adopts relevant translation methods of long sentences and passive voice, literal translation, free translation, division, combination, addition and omission. Examples are given to demonstrate the translation methods according to Skopostheorie. Finally, this paper is ended with the conclusion of translation inspiration and limitation, especially the translation of some abbreviations.
