| This project includes a Chinese-English translation on the parts of wealth report and wealth review articles in the Qianjiang Evening News for the recent years and a translation report on the difficulties in the translation process and the corresponding strategies.A lot of animal metaphors are used in the financial news of Qianjiang Evening News. Animals often contain some specific meanings in English and Chinese metaphors and they reflect different cultural connotations. In the process of translation, the translator encounters the following problems:when the same animal image embodies the different cultural connotations, when the different animal image embodies the same cultural connotations, or when the animal image in the text does not exist in English culture or when there is no corresponding cultural connotation to the animal image in English culture, what translation strategies should be taken respectively, and why.According to Bassnett’s cultural translation theory, we propose that culture is the unit of translation. The purpose of translation is for communication. Word for word translation is restricted by the source language. The translator should pay more attention to the cultural equivalence. Under the guidance of cultural translation theory, we have solved the difficulties and problems, and accordingly put forward the cultural interpretation strategy, cultural substitution strategy, cultural supplementary strategy and avoidance strategy.To sum up, it is necessary to have an in-depth understanding of the vehicle, meaning and cultural connotation of the western and Chinese animal metaphors and the cultural differences between them. Literal translation of animal metaphors is likely to obscure readers’ cultural communication with the writer. |
