Research On The Problem Of The Internet Of Things Technology Ethics

The technology of the Internet of things is a new form of technology using the new type of sensing technology, through the Internet to realize expansion from the virtual space to the real physical space. The development and application of Internet of things technology, is gradually changing people’s production mode, life style, ways of thinking, and greatly improve the labor productivity with shortening the distance between people and things. The Internet of things established by this technology is known as the third wave of world information industry after the computer and the Internet. However, at the same time, it also has negative effects, which produce some ethical issues, like infringing upon the rights of the citizens’ privacy, the threat to public safety, etc. How to minimize the negative impact of the Internet of things technology? How to safeguard people’s security and right? We need urgently to understand its ethical space, thus establish the corresponding ethical norms.Internet of things technology ethic space based on the traditional ethics, is not only the inheritance to the traditional ethics, but also the breakthrough ethics, is not ethics, the most prominent feature reflected in the information right, the public security and cultural sense. The emphasis on the ethics of the right to information leads to increasing information flow which in turn results in overuse of information, abuse of the right to information, ethical conflicts and invasion of privacy. Therefore, protecting privacy is a critical issue. Meanwhile, the information sharing on the Internet of Things(IOT) creates a new public security system that poses tough challenge to the ethical standards concerning public services, related interest parties, and technical loopholes. Further, the IOT technologies would trigger the ethical problems of humanism including the change of significance and sensibilities of life, stronger reliance on technologies, and even single-minded pursuit of material comforts.Considerable guidance and support are required to establish the ethics of IOT technologies. First, underline standards of ethical responsibility, fight for equality and justice, and ensure the authority and right to information for the main users of information system; Second, tighten the supervision of public ethics, improve laws and regulations on IOT, raise the ethical awareness of IOT security and establish stricter control over IOT security; Third, implement better strategy of ethical culture, advocate for humanist ethics, highlight reflective and critical culture, and strike a balance between virtual and real world. In this way, a good environment will be created for the development of IOT and its related technologies. The negative impact of the emphasis on material comforts brought by IOT will be reduced. Eventually, IOT and its technologies will achieve healthy and sustainable development that benefits mankind.
