As an important part of "the Eight Banners" adminidtration, the grarrison system can be dated back to the times when Nurhachi was in power. With the gradual stability of the reign of the Manchu, the garrison system of the "Eight Banners" experineced much improvement and was more comprehensive than before. The garrison system of the Eight Banners was origionally set up in Fu Zhou city in1656(emperor Shunzhi was in power), and the official establishment in the city was in1680when the emperor was Kangxi. The garrsion system being the major subject of the study, the paper makes a rather comprehensive elaboration on such issues as the reason for the establishment of the system, the settings of the military garrison, the functions of the leading generals, the maintenance of the military power. The research in the paper makes a brief introduction to the garrison system of the Eight Banners in Fuzhou City during the Qing dynasty. Besides, it is pointed out that the estabishment of the garrison in the city, on one hand, was of great significance to the stability of the border areas; on the other hand, it played a great role in preventing the intruders and guarding the territorial integrity. However, as the Eight Banners adminidtration was on the decline durinng the middle and later periods of the ing dynasty, the garrsion system in Fu-zhou city gradually fell in to decay and collapsed in the end.
