The vocational schools have been a great development with the national emphasis on vocational education. The number of students has increased rapidly. Facing the change of life environment, learning characteristics, relationships and other factors, fresh students will be unadapted and show various psychological problems. Therefore, to investigate the suitable psychological intervention mode on preventing potential psychological problems has significance.The research is related on some literature reviews from the concept, origin and development of group counseling, mental health, adaptability. As a means of intervention, Group counseling has been applied all over the world, which provides a theoretical basis and technical support on fresh vocational students.The research object is from fresh students of the Gansu Province Health School in2013. With the adapt questionnaire of fresh vocational students,40subjects have been selected from746students, and are divided into the experimental group (20subjects) and the control group (20subjects) randomly. Using the design of ante-post, the experimental group was tested of group counseling intervention for a period of six weeks, once a week, every two hours, while the control group received no intervention. With the tools of Students with Mental Health Scale (MSSMHS), group feedback unit self-assessment form, assessment scale for group counseling, the analysis of quantity and quality from the experimental results were made. Results showed as follows:1) There is no significant difference in the pre-test between the experimental group and the control group,but there is a significant difference in the post-test. In the experimental group, the difference of the remaining seven factors are very significant except "obsessive-compulsive""paranoia", and "emotional imbalance". It is shown that group counseling has significant effects on improving the fresh vocational students’ mental health and adaptability.2) There are the initial formation of group counseling programs:" The new life, the heart adapt","growing cooperation","self-management","say you, say me","My future is not a dream","We are a family" and so on. The above programs can effectively improve the fresh vocational students’ mental health level and adaptive capacity in order to help them adapt to the vocational life as soon as possible.
