The material for the simulated consecutive interpreting(SCI) practice comesfrom an English speech by Ryan Avery at Beijing Foreign Studies University inOctober,2014. As an Emmy Award Winner, Avery is the youngest world champion inpublic speaking ever. With well-organized content, humorous style and simple words,the speech explains methods and techniques for winning presentations and gives cleardirections for speech amateurs, from which the audience will benefit a lot. Bychoosing this speech as the research object for the simulated practice, the authorhopes to improve her own ability in both interpreting practice and public speaking.The report consists of three chapters in addition to a brief introduction and aconclusion: task description, error analysis, countermeasures and suggestionsrespectively. The first chapter gives briefly the general information of the simulatedpractice including an introduction to Ryan Avery and the speech content as well as thebasic requirements for the interpreter and also introduces the contents and theprocedure of the practical task in detail including before-interpreting preparation,during-interpreting process and after-interpreting assessment. Chapter twosummarizes the defects in the interpreting process and the possible reasons throughthe quality analysis of the overall performance in the simulated practice. Chapter threeoffers corresponding measures and suggestions to the problems to avoid weaknessesin future interpreting. In conclusion, the author reorients herself in her futuredevelopment in interpreting through the summary of this practice. It is hoped that thisreport will be of some help to her future interpreting study and practice.
